Biography

Apprenticed to Abraham Cooper for a year, once established Woodward acquired a number of important patrons. In the 1840s, he was commissioned by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert to paint their horses, and produced work for Sir Robert Peel also, among others. He was a friend and admirer of Edwin Landseer and a keen hunter as well as accomplished artist.
