Biography
Davis’s career as a painter was aided by his father’s position as King George III’s Huntsman. The King, seeing some of the young Davis’s drawings, insisted that his official Landscapist, Sir F. Bourgeois, provide Davis with further art training. Davis went on to study at the Royal Academy, and to exhibit at prestigious London venues. In 1828, he gained the position of Animal Painter to George IV, and served as the same for William IV and Queen Victoria. A producer of equestrian portraits, hunting and shooting scenes, Davis had many of his works published in The Sporting Magazine.
