Biography
Working in Newmarket, John Nost Sartorius produced many racing and other sporting pictures for a range of prestigious patrons. Many were reproduced in engraving, and a number of works produced specifically for sporting magazines and journals. John Nost’s son, John Francis (c.1775-1831) exhibited works in the same genre in the period 1797-1829. These are less assured than his father’s work, but there is nevertheless plenty of danger of confusing the two.
