Manages the annual tour, builds relationships with the new bursars, conducts the orientation prior to the tour, works with the Goodenough College programme co-ordinator to arrange the tour programme, supervises tour activities, bursar engagement, cohesion and welfare, and sustains the characteristic ethos of the tour through which its objectives are realised.
Dr John Gibbon, an Abe Bailey bursar from UCT in 1959, fulfilled this role from 2000, and stood down in 2018.
Mr Keith Richardson takes over this role from 2018. He is a retired Headmaster from Wynberg Boys' High School, currently working in The Principals' Academy based in Cape Town, as a professional mentor to educational leaders in Western Cape schools. He accompanied the 2017 tour to gain insight into this travel bursary programme.
